Farina Di Micha

This project collaboration with Maria Ji represents the first foray into personal food branding and marketing with a line of pastries “Farina Di Micha.” Each pastry is inspired by a Italian figure of speech/turn of phrase with names such as “Da i Numeri” or “Colpo di Fulmine.” Each pastry is designed to emphasize its unique character as pastry and its flavorful fillings or coverings. Each container is designed according to the shape and structural needs of its pastry passenger from fruit tarts and cannoli to millefoglie, chocolate truffles, an assortment of cookies and little cakes. All of the containers fit inside a single red box. 

Above, triangular truffles fill up the packaging space leaving no room for rolling and ruining the food in transit. 

The large square box is organized to carry the pastries in a safe but evocative display. The container for the petit fours, fruit tarts, millefoglie and cannoli can be opened by removing a single strip label and pulling apart the two halves. A silver corrugated liner resembling a baking tray, evoking a sense that the pastry is “right out of the oven” prevents the pastries from sticking to the packaging.

The cannoli are designed to stand up. Equipped with chocolate plugs, they do not discard their contents while traveling.  This helps transporting the pastries by preventing them from rolling around and getting damaged. Below the top layer, the square fruit tarts form a sturdy packaging foundation while also bearing a deep crust for better filling.

Keeping with the Italian and American, half and half theme, the cookies below are sold in a double box. One side holds the white cookies and the other holds the dark cookies. The boxes are triangular, like the truffles, making up the square similar to the other packages.
